Prints are sold by Census to Art, a UK sole trader based in Northern Ireland. Contact: hello@census2art.com.

Every print is personalised and made to order, so once production has started it can't be cancelled for a change of mind: personalised goods are exempt from the standard 14-day cancellation right under UK and EU consumer law. If a print arrives damaged, faulty, or materially different from what you designed, we'll reprint or refund it.

Digital downloads are sent by email as soon as payment clears. Because delivery starts immediately, you're asked to confirm that at checkout, and doing so ends the 14-day cancellation right for that file. If the file is faulty or isn't what you designed, we'll fix or refund it.

The maps are built by matching historic census addresses to historic boundary records, which have been redrawn and renamed many times since, so placements are a best match, not a surveyed address, and may contain errors.

Prices shown at checkout are in your local currency and include production and shipping. Payment is processed by Shopify.

The design you compose is yours to order as a print; the underlying map and census data remain subject to the source terms below, and we don't grant any licence to reuse that data beyond the physical print you buy.

Our liability is limited to the price paid for the affected order, to the extent permitted by law. These terms are governed by the law of Northern Ireland; nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

Searching a surname doesn't create an account or require you to identify yourself. When you place an order, we hold what's needed to fulfil it (name, delivery address, phone, email, and your design) and share your delivery details with our print partner, Prodigi. Digital downloads are emailed via Resend. Checkout and payment are handled by Shopify under their own privacy policy.

The 1901/1911 census records themselves describe people who died decades ago; that's historical public record, not personal data about a living person.

Abandoned orders are deleted after 35 days; contact messages and shared design links after 12 months; completed order records are kept 6 years for sales-record purposes. Email hello@census2art.com to see what we hold or have it deleted sooner, or to complain about how it's handled.

Delivery is free worldwide. Prints are made to order by Prodigi and typically arrive within 5 to 8 working days, depending on destination.

If a print arrives damaged, faulty, or not as designed, contact us and we'll reprint or refund it. Because each print is personalised, we don't accept change-of-mind returns once production has started.

Most cookies here just make the site work, and are set whatever you choose: a cart id, sign-in (if you use "Sign in with Shop"), and your currency preference. We also measure page views and speed (Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights) and collect crash reports (Sentry), all of it aggregate and none of it identifying you.

Two things need your permission, which is what the banner asks for. If you accept, Shopify's analytics sets a cookie that recognises your browser across visits, so we can see how many people come to the site and which pages lead to an order. The Meta Pixel (Facebook and Instagram) also records your visit, when you open the designer and when you add a print to your cart, so we can measure which of our ads work and show them to people likely to be interested. Meta handles that data under its own privacy policy. We don't sell any of it. Choose "Essential only" and neither is set, and nothing about the site changes.

Base maps are built from OpenStreetMap data, © OpenStreetMap contributors, under the Open Database License (ODbL), shown on-screen and on your packing slip. Elevation contours use the Terrain Tiles dataset.

The genealogical data comes from the 1901 and 1911 census of Ireland, public records open to inspection for decades. We built our own dataset from those records: matching, geocoding and artwork are our own. We're not affiliated with or endorsed by the National Archives of Ireland.

The site uses semantic headings, keyboard-reachable controls, and sufficient colour contrast, and works at any zoom level. The interactive maps and poster preview are visual by nature, so screen readers get search results and household details as text but not the map itself.
